Eighty-year-old George Goodwin believes the agricultural land in California’s Sierra Valley should be protected from residential development. His Swiss immigrant grandparents farmed in Sierra Valley. Goodwin, raised in Southern California, eventually purchased land there previously owned by relatives.
A barn on the Sierra Valley ranch of Rick Roberti and his family has seen six generations of farmers tend the land over more than 100 years. He said he expects the barn to witness many more years of stewardship in the high desert valley nestled in the northern Sierra Nevada.
